  • Provenance: Private Collection, Connecticut.

    Notes: Donald Forrer worked as a seaman on the Great Lakes before he went on to pursue a formal art education at the Cleveland Art School and then for a short time at the Huntington Polytechnic School. He continued his education at the Yale School of Fine Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1932. In 1934 Forrer married. He worked for the Public Works of Art Project before transferring to the WPA Federal Arts Project in 1935. He completed eight easel works and two murals. For the Department of Health in New Haven, he completed the mural The History of Public Health in New Haven which was exhibited at the New Haven Tercentenary Exhibition. Forrer's other works were allocated to the State Teachers College, Internal Revenue Office, and Board of Health. After completing the Public Health mural, he left the WPA project and moved to Ossining, New York to work in the studio of Eugene Savage. His date of death is unknown.
