Carlyle C. Browning was born on January 26, 1921 in Lawrence, Missouri to Marie and Boyd Browning, a railroad repairman. In 1949, Browning graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute. He went on to teach watercolor and drawing at the institute and was an instructor for
the Fort Leavenworth Women's Art Group. He met his wife Edna White after she relocated to Kansas City from Connecticut to become a stewardess with Trans World Airlines. Together they had two sons. 1

The family moved east where Browning attended Farnsworth Art School in North Truro, Massachusetts and became a member of the Art Students League. For over a decade he was the art director and designer for Display Workshop, Inc., a prominent display and exhibition design
firm in Hartford, Connecticut. Browning won first prize in the 1961 Motorola Art Competition, exhibited his work at the 1967 International and Universal Exposition in Montreal, Canada and painted four large murals for the Connecticut Turnpike restaurants. 2

A veteran of World War II, Carlyle Curtis Browning died on January 6, 1968. He was 47 years old.
