Johann Berthelsen, The master American Impressionist, came to America in 1890 at the age of 7. His first glimpse of America was the Statue of Liberty. Years later he went to New York to see if the statue was as he remembered it from his youth. He spent most of his life in New York and is famous for his paintings of the city.This painting of the Statue and the skyline of New York is one of only two known paintings of this subject by this artist.
